What drives progress in sustainable construction
The Passive House movement isn’t just gaining traction; it’s scaling up. While single-family homes still make up the majority of Passive House projects in the state, a growing portion are multifamily residential buildings and institutional projects are on the rise as well. One recent highlight includes, the Bourne Mill Apartments in Tiverton, a large-scale affordable housing development that reflects Rhode Island’s budding commitment to Passive House accessibility—evidence that sustainability is no longer limited to small residential builds.
Although most projects by Passive House Rhode Island members are located within the state, interest in Rhode Island’s expertise is expanding. Local Passive House builders and consultants are increasingly involved in projects across New England, bringing Rhode Island’s sustainable building practices to a broader audience.
